Without my books, serial numbers exceed 400,000.

Value, if TRULY as new (which is doubtful, everytime I see this stated I see an overrated gun it seems) is around $1200.

Edit: You need Bert to examine the polishing room records to obtain the last date that serial numbers were applied. As far as the inaccurate description, welcome to about 90% of the Winchester ads.

Also, really watch for rebluing / refinishing!

He only gave 390xxx as the serial number and it appears to have been made in 1958 and my list shows 1959 started at 409476 with 980 made that year. If I am correct he has bad info on his description.

390,000 receiver DOM is July 26 of 1957.

I have a Model 62A without the box in like new condition that I would not consider less than two grand for and it's probably worth more to the right collectors, but MG1890's figure of $1200 is typical for one 98%+ to 99% as I see it.

I am also looking at this one:
INFO: This is a Winchester 62A pump action takedown rifle chambered in .22 S/L/LR. It features a 23" blued round tapered barrel, a _ length tubular magazine, open sights, a 17-groove wood forend action, a blued frame, an exposed spur hammer, and a straight-grip buttstock with a black plastic buttplate.
This pump action rifle was manufactured in 1958, is in very good condition, shows wear consistent with moderate use, and retains about 40% of its finish. The barrel and action rails show light patina. The forend is dinged on either side and the buttstock is lightly scratched. The bore is in good condition and the rifling is moderately sharp.

    Gene,

Based on the description, it is a "shooter" grade rifle. 40% finish is well below collector grade.

Per the above description. "40% finish" "Light Patina". Reading between the lines, Patina in this context, is a weasel word for rust. I wouldn't even consider buying it, unless you need a beater to lend to you BIL, or something to stash under the seat in the Pick-UP.
