1897 Winchester Question

Did they ever use balck powder in this shotgun or was it always smokless? thanks

I don't suppose that any 97s(1897s)were ever chambered for 3" shells? I have never seen nor heard of one, but there's lots I have never seen or heard, so that don't count for much. Thanks for any help

None were ever made with a 3-inch chamber. If you wanted a Winchester shotgun back in the day with a 3-inch chamber, you bought a Model 12 Heavy Duck Gun.
