RARE remington model 720
i recently inherited a rem model 720 .270 cal. i researched this gun a bit and found that there were only a few thousand made. the rifle i have i do not believe was one that went to the navy as trophy guns but its one of the few commercial models that was released. it has a weaver scope that i understand this rifle and that scope went to some law enforcement departments? the rifle is in good condition and was just wondering what something like this is worth and just how "rare" it is?

The scope might have a negative affect on value? As many of the earlier BA rifles, weren't factory drilled for scope mounts. If your rifle was D & T'ed after leaving Remington. Could affect collectors value. As many want their guns factory original.

I have seen a Navy one.

I have one of the Navy trophy models. The civilian ones were in 30-06, 270 and, supposedly, a very rare variant in 257 Roberts. There have some articles on this rifle and the most comprehensive one was in the American Rifleman, but its online version cannot be found currently.
From what I can remember, there was a version made for the Michigan State Police or Highway Patrol as a sniper version, but this is just from my vague memory. Supposedly, there is a carbine version, as well. Your 270 version is indeed a rare version and even if only in fair condition, should fetch a few thousand.0 -
Friend of mine has an original Remington 720 in .257 Roberts; I have seen & handled it.
These 720s were the last Remington sporting rifles made largely from 1914/1917 Enfield parts manufactured during WWI under contract first to the British & then to the US.0
