browning auto 5 production date
I just acquired a Browning Auto 5 light 12 and would like to find out when it was made. The serial number is 2G over 72xxx. The barrel reads St Louis and Montreal. The warranty card says Ogden Utah and there's no Zip code, so I think it's before 1963 when the zip codes were introduced. The gun is in better than 95% condition came with all the paperwork in a Hartman Browning case. The warranty has the model and serial number but was never filled out or dated. The only alteration is a Poly Choke was added to the ventilated rib barrel. I'd also would like to know what it's value is

IMHO, the Poly Choke is a value killer. Puts it in the shooter category, unfortunately. Lot of A5's on the GB auction. Check the actual selling prices for similar A5's. Kicker is the choke, would have a negative effect on FMV. 0 -
Around here a Belgium light 12 with a polychoke and a little bluing wear is a $500 gun. 0 -
I agree with rufe on this, the poly choke kills the collector value.
Back in the day, if a gentleman could afford an A-5 Browning, he would buy an extra barrel, if he wanted to change the choke.
I have sold several A-5s that came as 2 barrel sets.

Around here a 12ga. A5 in excellent condition is a real hard sell at 5-600.00. Sweet Sixteen or 20 gauge, whole different story.
With a Poly Choke, $250-350.00.......
Add maybe 50-100.00 for the hard case.
Just my very humble opinion.
Good luck,
