Personal experience from my buddy using it last year in Wisconsin (our hunk of the state rarely involves anything past 150 yds) is that it was more than adequate. 130 gr TSX around 2550 fps at 100 yards and his deer went 20 yards and piled up. Not much edible meat loss at all; those all coppers really perform without bone grenading the snot outa everything . The Blackout pretty we'll delivers 7.62 x 39 ballistics with a better, broad and excellent bullet selection, and that round has now taken oodles of deer out of AKs and SKS's so with about the same bullet weights and velocities the better hunting bullets of the Blackout will more than suffice.
His gun of choice for last year was a "16 LMT with an ACOG on top. I work at a rifle range and even with load development rounds, I don't recall a hickup in perhaps 400 rounds we fired together, and it's an MOA or better load. H110 was the powder that wound up tightest, but Lil Gun was good too. LC cases trimmed and necked with CCI #41's.
From personal experience, Coyotes should not wander within 300 yards of me and my Daniel Defense "16 S2W. Has a Sig Tac 3X and using 135 gr TTSX's it will stay on a pie plate at 300 and like my friends 300, it just runs and runs. I'll admit to some teething pains when starting out and trying to find a good shoulder form for the case, but once I got the 5.56 LC trim thing figured out, all was great! Also, the broad bullet weight selection is best achieved with either a suppressor or pistol length gas tube in the heavy weight range, and AA 1680 (evidently made of unobtainium) powder. I rarely shoot over 180 grains because of the limitations of my "16 unsuppressed barrel and carbine length tube, but since I live in hell (AKA, Illinois) and will never own a suppressor heavy and slow seems a little pointless. Good luck; with the right bullet inside of 200 yards I'm not sure there's a whitetail made that will go much of anywhere.

    rong,

I do have a 300 Blackout S&W upper on a DPMS lower. It runs flawless, and is an absolute pleasure to shoot. Barnes, and Doubletap both have ammunition with the Barnes 110 grain XTac bullet in. With the penetration and expansion properties of those bullets, it is nothing short of a modern day 30-30, that is good for 200 yards, maybe a touch more.

I got this setup for my 81 year old mother, a lot of up and coming youngsters, and seems, this lil gal I know will be taking dibs on it too...I might have to get another one.
