I think you need to post this in the wanted forum. 0 -
Why not convert a cheaper 77/22 to 17 Mach 2? It's as simple as bolting on an aftermarket barrel. I did it years ago to make a 17 HMR and now have a dual caliber rifle by switching barrels. 17 HMR requires a different trigger guard and magazines, but still a cheaper way to go to end up with essentially 2 guns. For now I'm finding 17 HMR ammunition easier to find than 22 long rifle, though more expensive. There are a lot of 77/22's floating around, and you can readily convert them to 17 HMR, 17 Mach 2, or 22 WMR. Maybe not totally practical, but fun to do. 0 -

Even 77/22's are not CHEAP but at least you have a spare barrel if you convert a 22. In addition, if you don't already have a good supply of ammo, you may end up with an orphan. I'd look at Green Mountain for an aftermarket barrel. I bought 2 when they were on sale years ago. One is on a 10/22 and the other is waiting for use.
I like the little 17 Stinger but it has a very narrow window of usage. The HMR is much more flexible as to bullet weight and type, has more reach, and ammo is about the same cost.0 -
I am with Mobuck here. Get a 17 HMR. 0
