Unusual Winchester model 94

I have a Winchester model 94 serial # 2598534 that is somewhat unusual. First the butt stock and forearm are almost blonde in color. Second both bands appear to be gold plated. The barrel is 20", the cal 30-30 and the butt plate is checkered steel. I think it's from 1964. Any ideas or opinions?

  Many folks have a irresistible urge, to gild the lily, as far as their firearms are concerned. If you could prove it was done at Winchester? It would be a altogether different matter.

  Last time I checked Numrich, they had the gold plated bands for sale.

  Your rifle was manufactured during 1963. Based on your description the rifle has been "doctored" after it left the factory.

  I just noticed that the butt plate has reversed checkering (pressed instead of cut) Did Winchester ever do that?
