Port contract Mauser 98k 937A
I have a 937A Port contract Mauser(1941) that is all matching except for no serial number on the bolt. Now I know that these came straight from the Mauser factory and as a contract Mauser carried that countries requirements. Do any ATE know if all 937's were made without a number on the bolt? Can't find the answer in either Lud's book or "Backbone."

Ball says, that the later ones were the same as 98 K's. Except for the Portuguese crest, and Mauser-Werke on the side rail. 0 -
A good many of that contract didn't make it to Portugal, being diverted to the Wehrmacht instead, crest and all. I've even seen them as Russian captures also since they were needed for Operation Barbarossa.
Check for the bolt proofs and it should give you an idea of who made it and an approximate time. Those rifles left the factory with matching bolts.0 -
Thanks guys. Rufe, I should have also checked Bob's book....went deep in my library and found it....and it really doesn't say anything about the bolt serial number...but it does say the stock has the Port crest and mine does not so I am thinking mine has been restocked or but it is heavily dirtied up and it might be faint under the dirt...going to check closer with a glass. Have either you or p3skyking seen one and if you have did it have a serial number on the bolt? What is strange is that my rifle is all matching....bands and all but the bolt as no marking at all. There are no proofs on the bolt...no nada. If someone out there has one and it has a number on its bolt then I will know that mine is M/M. 0 -
Gary, open the bolt up and look for proofs on the firing pin. Rebuilders seldom go to the trouble of buffing off the firing pin.
I've had a couple of Portuguese '41 contract rifles over the years and they even had matching number bayonets, so yes your bolt has been dicked with.0 -
