Mod. 12 adjustment?

Never thought much about this but I have several Mod. 12's and was wondering when one should attempt to adjust the "geared" adjustment screw they all have?

  I would only attempt to adjust it, if the barrel is loose fit to the receiver.

  Also keep in mind they made 6 different adjustment rings, if #1 didn't 'take up the slack' you went to #2 and on down the line. To keep things interesting they didn't mark which # each ring was.

  I only need to tighten up a tooth or two if I have a loose barrel. My model 12s are mostly still on the orig or second tooth. I think it takes a lot of shooting and years of disassembly to work them loose. Yours may be the same way.
