    OK, really spitballing on this one. Can't necessarily even tell which end is which, but assuming its a right handed bolt action, I assume the end to the right goes into the receiver in the chamber area. That weird collar/locking lug near the back of the receiver makes me think sub caliber device for an Enfield, or other rear locking receiver. The lug collar I bet rotates? If so, keeping in mind low rim fire pressures, that would act as a support area, and allow the bolt to be reciprocated? The post behind it would work as another alignment/ support area. Noticed its serial numbered...who knows what that means? Is there a visible firing pin, and if so, what kind? Rim activating or center fire? I am baffled.

    For sure a rimfire with the offset firing pin.

    Correcty, the collar does rotate.

    is the actual breech end with firing pin and extractor missing

    No, the breech end is on the right side in the photos and the firing pin is about 1/4" recessed in that hole.

    Perhaps the bolt for a 22cal anchor/fastening tool.
