MAUSER 8MM-OR 8MM-06 ?
Here is a rifle that i believe is German. The bore measures 8MM and the bolt looks like a 98. Barrel is round but has some hex on barrel and tapers down to round at the end of stock. Fold down rear sight. Open front sight. Need some info on this rifle. Not sure if it has been modified. Thanks I will put pictures on here but not sure how to do it. Thanks for any help

your info is vague. I could probably help if you gave info on barrel proofs and receiver info. [marks]it is probably a half round half octagon barrel [bohler etc.] folding rear express sight. 0 -
Will it chamber a .30-06?
If not, will it chamber an 8x57?0 -
Could also be an 8x60, best to have someone do a hands on inspection. We can't see it all here. 0 -
To be certain have a gunsmith do a chamber cast and measure it. This will give you exact info on the chambering. 0 -
+1 for a chamber cast and slug the bore also. 318 or 323. 0 -

I think images are necessary here.
This is how you post them:

As a practical matter just fire a 8mm-06 cartridge in the rifle if it shoots well it's ok if it is fireformed into an 8mm 06 that's what you got. On first just to be safe insure that the bullet is not bigger than the barrel just in case.
I fire formed a bunch of 7mmRem Mag into 338 Win mag in this case with no problems.0
