1892 32-20 winchester
I was looking at the bore on a 32-20 around a 1909 year. As expected I found rifles all the way with some pitting but about 6 to 8 inches up the barrel from the cylinder there was a definate ring of what appeared to be some heavy pitting. What would cause that to happen?

Breech rather than cylinder on a rifle. Was it under where the rear sight is located, on the barrel? 0 -
Hello dodge69,
I would like to add your rifle to a research survey I am working on. http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=606355
I appreciate the help

Perhaps the flame temperature cooled enough at that distance for the mercury to plate out. Back then the primers were mercury fulminate. 0 -
rufe-snow yes it is about that area, around the rear sight 0
