S&W 1899 ?????
Hello all you S&W experts out there. I acquired what looks similar to a S&W Model 10 that I used to carry back in my old USAF days.
What I see on the web makes me believe it may be an 1899. It has 4 screws on the right side of the frame. One is found undr the grip panel.
It is marked on the right side of the frame between the grip panel and the cylinder as follows: TEXAS PRISON
143
The S/N is 614XXX. The cylinder crane is marked 29047. There are initials "BAR" carved in the bottom of one of the grip panels.
The top of the barrel is marked "PATENTED FEB. 06.06. SEPT. 14.09. DEC. 29.14
Not any bluing to speak left on it. I can send pictures.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

It isn't an 1899 with a 1914 patent date and that high SN.
Sounds like a 1905 4th change made sometime between the wars.
The prison mark is neat but probably not a large value add. .0 -
The pre Model 10's, were made prior to 1957. When S & W started marking their guns with Model numbers. The "K" frame, 6 shot, revolvers made prior to 1957, were known as the Military and Police model. 0
