Re-Barrel???
I have a Wby. Vanguard in .25-06. I wondering if it can be rebarreled to a .35 Whelen Ack. Imp. without having to fiddle with the rails or something else. I know the case body is larger, but will that be a problem? THX

I think the rails would be fine, a little work on the follower might help. 0 -
Make sure your gunsmith is willing/able to handle the metric threads. I was planning to use a Howa action for a 338/06 until the smith told me it would cost double due to the metric. 0 -
Hawkshaw,
Generally speaking, the rails will probably require a little touch up in order to get the wider diameter shoulder of the improved case to feed properly. It is not uncommon nor it is a difficult proposition. The feed ramp might need a little attention as well but maybe not.
I wouldn't hesitate to do this conversion.

My guess is that this particular gunsmith really doesn't want to do metric threads at all. Pricing yourself out of a market is the easy way to discourage processes you prefer not to do. Mostly this is because many older lathes require a gear change to accomplish metric threads. Standard manual lathes are usually run forward to thread then stopped and run in reverse to get back to the start of the threads.
With the advent of lower priced CNC lathes, many gunsmiths have selected one of these as their tool of choice. This makes metric threading a very simple process and no more difficult than cutting standard threads. That would lead to keeping the cost of metric threads being the same as the standard threads.
If your gunsmith says it will cost more, move on to another gunsmith that wants to work and has good work ethics.

Yes. It only needs to be rebarreled, Metric threads should not be a problem. I did one last year, worked out fine. 0
