A2 flash hider on a 30 cal carbine
picked up a little universal carbine in a trade, the barrel is threaded and it has a A2 flash hider on it, out of curiousity took it off to look, barrel is threaded 1/2 -28, the 30 cal bullet easily goes through hole in flash hider, just wondering if this is safe, thanks

What part do you think may not be safe?
That it's a Universal? Maybe yes, maybe no. If it has only a single guide rod/spring on the right side, it's probably safe. Otherwise, not safe.

Should be fine - FH exit hole doesn't exactly hug the bullet diameter. If you'd like to play it safe Brownells sells a sleeveless thread adapter that will turn 1/2X28 to 5/8X24 and you can then buy an AR 10 A2 type FH. As an aside, an old style "3 prong" FH as found on older ARs might be a neat little attachment (so long as the exit hole size is OK) for the carbine.0 -
