    Got one like it [^]
Wouldn't part it out for any reason [;)][:)]

Forgot to mention I have a carbine {COLT} upper that came with the small pin adapter for the large pin lower. Also have a A2 [COLT] upper for it. I put a ColT 3X scope on the A1 handle [;)]

You could just change the upper receiver.

Factory Colt AR's have always brought a premium on the resale market. I think parting it out will be more work to get you less money.

But, in the same situation, I made a different choice: I mounted an Eotech scope on the handle. I get to keep my rifle, & I can still hit a reasonable size target out to 200 yds.

+1 Parting it out wouldn't even be an option. Trying to sell most of the parts claiming them to be Colt would be nearly impossible other then the receiver or barrel. It isn't like every part has a Colt part number or stamping to determine that they are actually Colt parts.

There's no way I would part it out...If you want to sell it, fine.

Take the money you get for it and pick up a new Colt AR15A4...best of both worlds

Sorry did'nt mention that its a large pin lower. I have other lowers with the small pins (milspec)and other caliber uppers. I would just get a small pin upper lower set and use the Colt parts to make a pretty nice AR for me. I paid 699.00 for it in 1989. I dont know if I could buy the same quality of parts for it for that amount in todays dollars. quote:Originally posted by RobOz

+2 on getting another upper. Just get a pin adapter kit from Brownell's and get the utility of your rifle and keep the value of an original Colt. I did something similar, but I got an upper in 6.8 SPC carbine length and find it to be a very good rifle. I put a 1-5X scope on it and my 70+ YO eyes like it just fine.

As already mentioned parting this out is lots of work for no reward.

If you really don't like the rifle as is, and don't want to put an optic onto the carry handle, you've got two realistic choices:

-Sell the entire thing and buy one in the configuration you like. IMO this is probably the most "comprehensive" and cleanest solution, and if you do this right, net cost to you will be minimal (you might even make money, depending on what you get in replacement).

-Get an upper you like and use that. Offset pin conversion part to let you use small pin uppers on large pin receiver is cheap and readily available:
