Preferred low profile gas block
Hi,
I have Frankensteined AR with an M4 sight/gas block and think one of my early customizations would be a railed handguard and free float the barrel. DO I go with a clamp-on style or a set-screw style and why?
TIA

If you got a short barreled, homemade carbine? I wouldn't even be worrying what type of gas block. Just that you get a gas block, that has a screw adjustable gas orifice.
Brownells sells them. They have a very substantial selection of different type of gas blocks.0 -
I've built a few ARs and use a steel clamp on. Various makers out there. I have a pretty slim Midwest Industries handguard and use a low profile clamp on. The rifle is a 7.62X39 carbine and even with the extra "ooph" stays in place. With set screws the recommendation I've read is to dimple the barrel.
I suppse done right either is OK. I've used the clamp on because I prefer steel and it's generally easier to attach.0
