    Howdy back, bdreiss,

Ha, well "good and reasonable" are often hard to find together?

But never hurts to look into-- Alfonso made up a nice rig for me some 30+ yr's ago that I've never had to look around for another one...

I know just enough about fast draw to get me in trouble if I open my big mouth, in other words, not much. Someone here should be able to help out though. I will take a modest stab at-- from fast draw timed competition I've seen, their holsters are an entirely different ball game, and not for use when on a saddle.

Also, you might look into some of the CASS websites. But not sure what you're looking for, use wise?

www.epsaddlery.com makes outstanding gunleather. They've been in the holster business since the 1800's. They make period correct and fast draw style Hollywood rigs. Be prepared to spend about $250 for a quality rig. The more bells & whistles you add the higher the cost (adding silver, exotic leathers, floral carving etc). Fast draw rigs are pure Hollywood.

Regular draw will have the holster riding on your waist with the gun up higher. I looked at the holster from the link to tge sportsmans guide...to me looks like something you would pick up in Tijuana. It will get the job done if you aren't too rough with it.

    bdreiss,

I believe that the THE biggest difference between a regular holster and a fast-draw holster is that the fast draw holsters have a SHEETMETAL layer between two layers of leather. The sheetmetal is formed, so that the holster stays opened & shaped, and this aids in pulling the gun from the holster.

Not a quick draw person but I know a few of those people. Their rigs are special to the sport and so are the handguns if you expect to compete.

I made my own fully lined and flapped holster for my S&W Jet because no one makes one.

I like an opening in the bottom of the barrel channel as it lets crud out.

Thanks gang for all that info. I know that I ain't going into competition so the std is it. I will check out those web sites. The Ruger holster on the link is made by http://www.cows.com I have sent COWS 2 emails asking about making it and no reply. They are made in the USA which is what I will go with. That way if something goes wrong I don't need to learn spanish to bitch:-) I will try to make my larger grips but I will not do leather. I enjoy wood-working.
My horse-back riding days are long gone. The only horse I still might ride is an Iron one. I wish I knew how to insert a pix & turn on HTML. I have a gr8t iron horse saddle & holster pix. Okay, that's it for now. I'll let yous know what's next.
