    Is it one like these?

If it is, you can pry them off with the tip of a jewelers screwdriver. Be Very careful not to scratch any adjacent metal finish.

YMMV, but I've found it best to remove them inside a plastic bag to prevent loss of said Jesus clip.

No it doesn't look like one of those.
    It is simple looking.
Like the small ring that holds the medal to a necklace.
    Google 317430A to see part.
Retaining ring describes it better than spring clip.

    I may give up.
I cannot get the ring off by prying without the risk of damage to something else.
Too many might happens might happen.

Seems to me the way to do it is to break off the nut shaft and ring from the underside of the leaf.
Buy a new spring clip and hope to be able to snap it onto the new elevation nut.

Anyone out there know a good way to change one of these things?
The one there now works as it should.
Wanted to make the gun look better.
    Someone buggered up the slot.

    That's it BigLoop22.
The diameter is about 5/64th of an inch.
Was able to collapse the end of the elevation nut with a small pliers allowing the ring to slip off undamaged and be used again.
Existing plunger and spring were in good shape.
    These are some tiny parts.
Felt good to get it done.
I am happy with how much better the gun looks.
