At first glance I thought it was a 1899 hand ejector M&P.
I cannot ID it.

Years back there was a short lived fad for fitting Colt barrels to S & W revolvers. They were generically known as "Smolts", (I'm not making this up). Maybe that's what it is? 0 -
There are more questions about this gun than known facts.
Fact, gun is refinished (note plated trigger & hammer)
Fact, not original grips
Fact, not original barrel or ejector rod configurations
Gun is five shot, prolly post war pre 32 0r 33
Gun appears to be 4 screw configuration
Cylinder may be 38 S&W, can't read caliber designation on barrel
This is what I would call a "franken-gun"

Echoing the above, without a better look at the markings, its impossible to know exactly what model that gun is. . .or more precisely what gun it was when it came out of the factory.
Right now the ejector shroud is gone and barrel looks to be cut down and/or a replacement. Refinish appears probable and even that looks to be a bit worn.
I don't even want to speculate on what exactly it is, but I'll say sight unseen that its highly improbably that it locks up tighter than a new one (unless the cylinder gap is too short!), and that its "barely been fired".
IMO, that's a $250 gun *MAX*, and there is *NO WAY* I'd buy a gun like that without at least a close personal inspection.0 -

I don't know where anyone got the idea that it is a 5-shooter. It is most definitely a Hand Ejector .38, but I can't tell which incarnation. It may be the 1899 version, which had no front latch on the ejector rod, but the end of the ejector rod is missing.
It is also refinished and hacked up.
I don't care that it does "lock up tighter than a new one." I wouldn't have it as a gift.0 -

Would someone give my uneducated eyes some help as to what I am not noticing?
To me it looks to be a worn finish nickeled 38spc missing the ejector rod with after market grips.
Is the silver colored hammer and trigger the main reason it appears to be re-nickeled?0 -

Note how the barrel is marked, the taper of the barrel, the tip on the end of the ejector rod, & the lug on the bottom of the barrel; all of these are missing from the one we are discussing.
Note that this one also has plated hammer & trigger, since it has also been refinished. A factory hammer/trigger would be case hardened.
If you get the chance to inspect it, the markings stamped on the barrel might tell us a lot.
