You have a model 1911 frame and a model 1911A1 slide the gun was refinished at least once and maybe many time Rock Island Arsenal at least one of those times. You have a PUT TOGETHER GUN If I read the frame serial number correctly No 591755. then this is a very very late
model 1911 frame albeit lost it's collector value.

The frame, from the serial number appears to be a Remington Rand. Dating to 1945. Also appears that it has been reparked, over pitting.

If both above observations are correct? It would put it in the shooter category. With little collector demand/value, at this point in time.

    EDIT #1

I agree with PS about the 1911 frame. But the serial number seems to be in the 2 million range. At least the first digit appeared to me to be a "2"whereas it's "NO", Maybe my seniorits, is starting to kick in?

Looks like a 1919 receiver and most 1911 small parts with an Ithaca slide, product of an arsenal refurbishment program. The RIA stamp is so faint, it may have been gone over more than once.

The Ps stand for Proofed. They should be the same size on frame and slide as the gun would have just been hit twice with the same stamp when tested. More than that might be from the rebuilds.

I would not say collector value is completely gone, legitimate arsenal reworks are being recognized now as the pristine originals get priced higher and higher.

I like it , it would make a great shooter vs a safe queen , as long as the price was right I would have bought it without worrying about collector interest.

That serial number puts it as a Colt frame mfg'd between 10/24/1918 to 4/10/1919, per J.C. Harrison book "U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909 - 1945. As stated the slide is a WW2 Ithaca and is nicely fitted to the frame.

Got it in a 3 gun purchase, it's gonna be a shooter for sure just wanted some input. Total for all 3 was less than $1500 2 colts and a sig. Times are tuff and hated having to buy them but I did.

Closer inspection shows a (S5) or (S16) under an Eagles Head on the left side below the slide release

wow this shows why taking pictures are so important in trying to give CORRECT information I think the main reason is not enough light with out reflection and a lens that can focus at the short distance needed to see detail With my monitor I cant see S5 or S16 or even a Eagles head .I know something is there but Can't make it out

While many mixed parts guns were refinished & issued by US armories, this gun appears to have been rebuilt by Bubba. Giveaway's are the buggered mag catch screw, the hand stamped M1911 markings on the right side of the receiver, & Parkerizing applied over extensive pitting.

I would not fire it without first having it checked out by a gunsmith.

I have seen some discussion on other boards about the 1911A1 stamp added to arsenal reworked 1911s. It may well be legitimate. The Army didn't care if it was a little rusty before they sandblasted and Parkerized it. And there are any number if ignorant owners who think the magazine catch must be a screw because it looks like a screw.

I wouldn't bother a gunsmith with it just to shoot it a little.

I think I would have tried to answer the questions before I paid for it.
