257 Headspace Gauge for 6mm Remington?

Ok so the 6mm Remington was based on the 257 Roberts necked down to 6mm...so why can't a 257 no go gauge be used to check headspace of a 6mm Remington? Checked the interchangeability charts and all of them list 257, 7x57 etc, as separate from 244 Rem / 6mm Rem. Anyone have any ideas?

  The 6mm Rem is based on the same case but has a different length to shoulder and angle, so it's going to have a different gauge length.
