Proof Marks are required in Austria. They are different from other countries. Post photos of the proofs and manufacturers markings, on the rifle. 0 -

Some guns from Ferlach were imported by Flaig's of Pennsylvania back in the 1950s-'70s. 0 -
This was bought in Austria by an army Major in the 1950's who I knew and passed away in the early 70's,It says bohler stahl on the top of the barrel and 30-06 and 40-1 on the the right side of the barrel
it has a four digit number on the barrel base on the left side and also on the receiver left side just below the number on the barrel,it is followed by a dot and a two digit number 54 on it.Then 2 different mint stamps,it has engraving of elk or red deer on the magazine door and the receiver is all engraved, great looking wood and a double set trigger.
It also has welded in mounts and a K.Kehles Wein,Helia 26,

I believe your rifle is a reworked military Mauser. Rather than a purpose built, commercial Ferlach sporting rifle.
Austria was still controlled by the 4 allied powers in the early 1950's. When your rifle was built. As far as I know commercial production at Steyr & Ferlach wasn't resumed until the mid 50's.
The photo below I got off the net. It shows the Austrian commercial proof marks on a Belgian made gun.
The proof marks on your rifle are in a similar format, only dating to the 1950's.
The number before the period is the Ferlach proof number for your particular rifle. The two digit number after the period is the date of proof.

Nice old school Rifle I suggest the scope mounts are silver sodered not welded I like the stock figured on the butt and straight grained on forearm The double set triggers also nice as well as the Floor plate.
. Lots of Gunsmiths after the war were happy to make Guns for Military
U.S. officers. The floor plate was not in my opinion Not made by the gunsmith but a custom piece available to gun smiths ogf that time frame just like the trigger The engraving on the floor plate is Much better than the rest of the rifle. While these guns are good quality. they have gone out of style in today's world at a small gun show They would bring $500.00 - $700.00 on GunBroker It may bring a bit more. Scope is nice but again out of style0 -
Great Info you guys are giving me,I also have another custom Mauser I'll post soon,
also is there any Darne shotgun experts here?0 -
Perry shooter I must admit I don't like this scope mount at all,
I'll take my Model 700 Remington anyday over this rifle.0
