found one i may buy..heard there was anywhere from 3-5000 made any know for sure how many only 2 listed on GB for around 1800.00 ..really??

  According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, there were 4998 made from 1989 to 1993. Not really that scarce or collectible to demand a premium (like a 627-no dash). But, if NIB, it would be a nice gun to have at a reasonable price.
  
  When looking for prices on GB, I find it is helpful to search COMPLETED auctions only, sorted on HIGHEST NUMBER OF BIDS FIRST, & excluding RESERVE auctions.
