Large Dovetail
Hello All,
Can anyone name a pistol that would have a 1/2" dovetail(.552 to be exact)? I've found some S&W's with some that went to .462 but nothing larger. Thank you for your time.

How about a Browning Medalist? Anybody have one to measure? 0 -
I have no idea what you are talking about, maybe rear sight dovetail? Give us some details, whats the deal?
Maybe Ruger Mark I/II? My Mark II measures .535 by .565 wide. These measurements were obtained with a micrometer but I couldn't get in tight enough so take them with a grain of salt. I would guess older .22 Ala Mark I/II Browning/ High Standard etc.0 -
Sorry about that. The rear sight dovetail. 0 -
I've got a Micro pistol sight with a dovetail that measures .552, and trying to find the application. Yeah, I know, a needle in a haystack. I've been unable to find any Micro Sight sites, for info or application or pics of products. 0 -
At least one model of Micro sight for the 1911 required enlargement of the factory/military slide's dovetail to approximately that size. 0 -
Agree with richarda.
Does it look like the one at

I have an old Pachmayr with the low mount Micro and as nearly as I can tell with out taking it apart, the dovetail is that width.
I have seen a number of GunBroker and other www illustrations of these sights installed wrong. The bubbasmith widens the GI dovetail to .552" but does not deepen it. He ends up with the sight perched on top of the slide nearly as tall as the regular Micro.
The dovetail is supposed to be deep enough that the sight body is level with the top of the slide. Mine is about .245".
It looks a lot like a Novak Low Mount, only kind of boxy.
I found an installation diagram in 'Combat Handguns' By Maj Geo. C. Nonte. It calls for a good deal of milling, this is not for anybody's factory dovetail.0 -

The sight looks like the one in the pics save for a set-screw at the seven o'clock position in the top pic. Any idea of it's value? I'm unable to locate any links to sites regarding when or where they were produced. The sight looks nearly new.
Thank you all for the input.0 -
Micro sights were still available up into the 1980s. Made in California, as the label on the one in the link I posted shows.
A Micro rear was $35 when a Bomar was $45.
A good Bomar copy is now $70 or more. Does that make a Micro worth $60? Maybe, but only to somebody embarking on a retro gun setup. There are more popular sights for shooting.0
