GunBroker Feedback Rates
I hope this topic is allowed here. If not, I apologize and the moderators will surely lock it. I'm just not sure where else to post it.
I don't sell very often on the auctions side, but when I do I bust my hump to describe the item well, go out of my way to clearly and swiftly communicate with customers, package the item well and ship quickly, and then leave feedback as soon as payment arrives. Despite this, only about 60%-70% of the people I deal with leave feedback. I often wait a week or two and then follow up with the customer to see if they're satisfied and request feedback--some will reply with an email but most of the recalcitrants still avoid leaving feedback. I want to build a reputation as a solid GunBroker buyer/seller, so this lack of feedback is frustrating, especially given the significant effort I put into each transaction. So, I'm wondering if any of you frequent sellers have experienced the same thing, i.e. what seems to be a low feedback rate? Overall, my feedback is good, I just expect more. Am I expecting too much or is a 70% feedback rate just the way the GunBroker game is played? Thoughts?

Never sold anything here but I think you are taking the feed back a little to hard. You deserve the gold star for doing your best but it's not going happen every time. Be thankful that they pay. 0 -
I both buy & sell here, & I think my FB percentage is about the same. At first I took it personally, but now I just shrug it off: it is what it is. Some folks are just too busy, or don't want to be bothered.
You would think that when you sell something, the least the buyer would do is take 10 seconds to email you, "I received it".

70% feedback for online sales and purchases is probably pretty good but I don't have any hard data in front of me. I buy things online all the time and seldom go back to (say) Amazon.Com and leave feedback or give product evaluations and I am sure that I am far from alone. I do agree with Neal: As a seller just a quick email confirming that the item was received would be appreciated. 0 -
My feedback rate is about the same. Many people are appreciative of what was simply a straightforward transaction, and will not hesitate to say so. Others just walk away wordlessly, once they've gotten the merchandise (or the money, if they were a seller). I've frequently included freebies which some people expressed appreciation for, while others who were given extras left no feedback at all. Once, a buyer overpaid $13 for shipping, which I returned by mail, but any feedback from him is still AWOL.
Just keep rolling [:)].0 -
Just be happy and satisfied, that your getting 70% positive feedback. In the past when I was still doing the auctions. I've had folks try to intimidate and coerce me. By threatening to "BOMB", my feedback. 0 -
Gosh does your story sound familiar. Thus far I've sold 51 Auctions on this and "the other one" and have a total of 35 feed-backs. Including the times I've sent extras, the returned overpayments and all you've described. I'm very pleased to hear from you, I was wondering the exact same thing. Was it me or just the way it ran?
Thanks for your post, it helped my understanding.0 -
As others have said 70% is probably the max feedback rate to be expected . IMO it kind of depends on the item, it seems that cheaper items people blow off and the higher $$ items people want to show that they are willing to pay and want to be acknowledged for it. However, the basic rule is that as a seller you should list your item honestly and post feedback as soon you receive the $$. But that never really helps you as a seller and you tend to hold back feedback. As both a seller/buyer I agree 100% with your post and don't necessarily follow all of the "moral" rules. I figure that it takes effort on both ends. However the rating often seems to affect the seller more than the buyer.

my .02 . on feedback . if I bought, paid, sent ffl . the buyer did all he can do ,now seller is the same , got payment, got ffl, got address of ffl . I see a lot of sellers don't leave feedback till after the buyer does . if you bought , paid ,ffl'ed how could a seller leave bad feedback on you 0 -
And all this time I thought it was just me getting skimpy feedback and feeling bad about it. I guess I'll just shrug and write it off as human nature. But like you, when you sell an item for several hundred dollars, it seems like the VERY LEAST a buyer could do was acknowledge receipt of the item. My $.02.
