Linear brake-AR15

Morning...
Will a linear brake on my AR15, direct
significant noise towards the target rather
than towards my wife in the house.
(backyard shooting range)

  directing gasses (noise) rearwards (towards the shooter and behind) is the force that decreases recoil. In other words, that's what makes a brake a brake. Directing gasses forward towards the target is what your barrel does without a brake.
  
  If you want to screw an attachment to your barrel that reduces recoil AND sound, a suppressor is your only option.

  I don't quite understand.
  If all the holes in the "muzzle"
  point down range of the Levang linear brake
  how can the blast be directed back at you?

  its not. But recoiI won't be reduced either since the gasses directed forward pushes the rifle rearward into your shoulder. That would defeat the purpose of having a brake since not having a brake does the same exact thing

  As long as the gases are directed
  forward and more "pleasing" to the
  house (wifey) behind me all will be well

  Well, I never ever heard of one until now, but if you read the reviews about them on Midway's site, people say they work.

  A friend here has one. It is not nearly as effective as a side blast brake.
  
  If noise is the problem, just shoot with a bare muzzle. How much does a .223 kick, anyhow? Not enough to bother anybody but a high end 3 gunner.

  The point missed by everyone is the fact that the Levang Linear Brake uses an internal expansion chamber to reduce the recoil while letting the plasma and noise exit straight down range from the muzzle.
  
  The Levang is not quite as efficient as the larger side discharge brakes such as the Badger FTE or Thruster but it is much more compact and lighter by comparison. And don't forget the price is less than most brakes.
  
  Your wife will be comfortable standing behind you while you practice.
  
  I have 3 or 4 currently on field rifles.
