Is it legal or can I legally change the thumb hole stock to a regular AK stock with pistol grip??

  It is legal but you need to change several Chinese made parts for parts made in the USA to be compliant with 922r. Also keep in mind that MAK90s have receivers that are specifically cut to make installing a military stock set very difficult. TAPCO typically has everything that you'll need to do the job and be compliant:
