1873 Winchester sight removal

Hello: What is the correct way to remove the rear sight from an antique Winchester rifle? Should the sight be drifted out of the dovetail from left-to-right or right-to-left? Thanks.

  Brass drift against the sight, drive left to right as looking down the barrel in shooting position would be my first choice. If it seems to be getting tighter try the other way. Pre treat with a good penetrating oil like Kroil.

  have done the hair dryer and kroil ...cool and repeat

  Hello,
  
  Left to right ONLY!! as looking down the barrel in shooting position. Lots of bad things will/can happen trying the other direction!
