Old Model Ruger Bearcat hammer question
I picked up an Old Model (1961, I think) Ruger Bearcat in original box and said to be unfired. Both sides of the hammer have a sort of engine-turning on them -- little concentric circles all over instead of just smooth metal. It looks factory rather than an owner modification. I've never seen this patterning before. Is this the way some fairly early Bearcats came? I have another Old Model that doesn't have this patterning. It's not a problem, just a curiosity. Any comments?

It's not uncommon to see Bearcats with what looks like corrosion on the sides of the hammer. I really can't figure why this happens.
But, engine turned? No way it was done by the factory.

I have a first year Bearcat and a very early Super Bearcat Both have hammers that have blued Sides 0 -
Concentric circles sounds like it has been jeweled, which is not factory. Can you post a picture. 0 -

I'm not set up to post a picture at the moment, but I think "jeweled" is the correct description. I've seen other guns with hammers and triggers treated in a similar way to make them look fancy, I guess. I'm not bothered by it, but I may keep my eye out for a smooth hammer; hammers are easy to replace. At any rate, the price was right. Thanks for the info, everyone.[:)]0 -

This is an example of a "jeweled" hammer:

Personally, I'd rather have the jewelled original hammer than a replacement with unknown workmanship. 0
