1911A1 Colt WWII Production Question
Another friend of mine is the executor of a friend's estate that had a 1911A1 Colt WWII Production bring-back. This guy had it chrome plated which I'm guessing was the thing to do back in the 50's. He wants to get the most for it if possible. Someone suggested to him to have the chrome removed, determine the production date to determine the original type of finish and then have it refinished in that material. Either way the collector's value is shot. Any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lot of variables come into play, i.e. Was the frame made by Colt? Was it buffed prior to being refinished? Is the plating Chrome, or the more common Nickel? Etc.
That said. Not like it would be cost effective, to have the platting professionally removed. And have it refinished to the same, as it left Colt.0 -
I agree sell it the way it is you will never recover The cost to RESTORE to original Condition, EVEN if you try to say it is original finish "which it is not" the value will be less than It will bring
now + the cost to restore. My advise is sell it to someone that Likes BLING.0 -
The guys are right. In the current condition, it would bring $400-600. If your friend spent a few hundred to strip & refinish it to approximate an arsenal refinish, it would bring $800-1,000 if it hasn't been polished/mutilated too badly.

It's not uncommon to see a firearm someone's family always thought was a war bring-back turn out to be a different sort of animal.0
