Glock 19 or 23 Mags modified for 45 GAP?
Ok so I know a lot of you are just going to say buy the right mag but this is more for informational purposes. I picked up a Glock 38 in 45 Gap that came with 2 mags. I have several Glock 19 and 1 Glock 23 mag laying around so I thought I would see if anyone had any experience modifying these to feed the 45 GAP. The 23 mag will hold 6 rounds before it starts to bulge and seems to feed them fine. Any way to get it to hold all 8 and feed them reliably? The feed lips on the model 19 mags I have (all aftermarket) are too narrow to even insert a round but I'm hesitant to open them up only to have the follower come jumping out. Any experience in this area? Anyone ever try to modify the metal mags that were sold a while back (I have some of them too)? Like I said just seeing if I can get some info and thoughts. Internet search revealed nothing.

About 15 yrs ago Scherer told me that the difference between 9mm and .40s/w mags was one is stamped 9mm and the other 40s/w. But .45 is a lot bigger than .40, more than likely way too big. Messing with the lips would probably make them too unstable to be reliable. Certainly untrustworthy. Sell/trade them and just get the correct mags. You will be much happier. 0 -

There is a reason for that....You have the correct answer,,,just adding mine to.0 -
I use the Glock 20 10mm mags for 40S&W and 357Sig without problem when I switch barrels. 0 -
Meh. . .I think you're doing better than expected just getting a 40SW magazine to work AT ALL here. Is there a way to get these to run 45GAP right? Probably not. . .at least not any way that's going to be practical.
Trying to modify a 9mm polymer over metal mag to run 45GAP will probably just ruin the mag.
I can see why you might want to explore this sort of thing if you couldn't get your hands on any 45GAP mags, or if they were astronomically expensive. EG, if I remember right back during the Clinton ban years, some clever wags found you could fit 12 9mms into a limited capacity 10 round 40SW mag and still get it to run right. There are a few other substitutions that can work too, and in general, it doesn't hurt to know about these sorts of things.
But the fact is the 45GAP mags you want are still available (at least for now. . .) and they're reasonably priced. I think you'll be way ahead of the game just buying a few extra 45GAP mags and stopping there instead of trying to re-engineer other mags.
Actually, IMO, you'd be better off yet switching out your 45GAP **GUN** for one in a different caliber, but that's a separate issue/question [}:)]0 -
There's a bunch of mags over on the auction side designed for the 45 GAP and the prices are reasonable. 37 mags will also work in your 38. Selling your 19 and 23 mags will likely finance the purchase of th proper magazines.
