.38 special reloads
Hi everyone - I have 36 boxes (1800 rnds) of .38 special reloads (Star Reloading Co.) that I want to sell locally... but I don't know how much to ask for them. Any opinions??
The only reason I'm not listing them on GunBroker is bc of the shipping costs - they weigh a ton!

In my area (Midwest) $10 to $15 per box. A sure sell for $10. The box says "Match Ammunition" which probably means loaded with wadcutter bullets = low power, light recoil. That type of reloads usually go for one quarter to one third of retail price. 0 -
$15 a box, five boxes for $60, ten boxes for $100 advertized locally should get it sold for you pretty quick. 0 -
Although the boxes appear to be in excellent condition. The markings on the boxes without a zip code, and 5 digit phone number. Appear to date to the 50's or even earlier?
No telling how or where it's been stored, all these years. I would test fire some cartridges from random boxes. To see if the primers/power are still functionable.0 -
EOD_daddys_grrl,
If the ammo is original to the boxes, and they all come from the orignal run (instead of from an old stock of boxes), then, as has been said, they are from more than 45 years ago. The 5-digit Z.I.P. Code was instituted around 1962, and it was mandatory by around 1967. Have you shot any of them, as a quailty-control check?
Not only that but check out the phone number using an exchange name rather than a three digit prefix. I have not seen that since I was a kid and even then not for long before it was phased out.

Star Reloading was doing business till 2001. Your boxes appear tobe older, but that doesn't mean the ammo is older. They supplied many Police agencies in that state. Not uncommon for the leo's to return
spent shells in old boxes for reloading again.0 -
Big makes a good point.
A buyer may be unwilling to take a chance that the ammo has been kept cool for the last 45 years, unless he lives nearby & you are willing to give a refund if they turn out to have been damaged by heat.
Unless you are willing to take a price close to the value of components alone.....
