1911 problems
I have an Olympic arms 1911 45 that when fired the hammer will not stay back. It chambers a new round but the hammer follows the slide back into battery. After doing a function check I have discovered that the hammer only follows the slide when the trigger remains depressed. If the trigger is not pulled when the slide is cycled it will stay cocked, drop the mag, pull the trigger and then cycle the slide the hammer won't stay cocked.
Should I replace the disconnector? What else should be replaced?
MOLON LABE!

An evil tree bears evil fruit. You can destroy as much fruit as you want, but it will always grow back, and it will always be evil.
Tear the tree out of the ground by the roots and burn it. Burn it to ash and grind out the embers with your boot until there's nothing left. Not a single spark. Not a single seed.

Several months ago I bought a slightly used Springfield Mil Spec 1911A1, I don't think it had been modified in any way. When I first bought it I was having a lot of failures to fire, the firing pin just wasnt hitting the primer hard enough to fire. Took it to a gunsmith and he replaced the firing pin spring, he said the one on the gun was a much stiffer spring than it should be so that it would be compliant with California's drop tests, and I don't even live in Ca. Well he checked the firing pin and everything else and it all checked out as normal. Now, after the new spring was put in it works much better, but is still not 100%. Once in a while it still doesent fire a round, and even the ones that do fire have a very light dent in the primer. Any guess's as to what may cause this. Basically my firing pin isn't hitting the firing pin hard enough. I doubt its a really light hammer spring which from what I hear is a common replacement for a lighter trigger pull, as this one doesent have a light pull for a 1911. Any ideas? Thanks

Thank you Forgemonkey .

Forgemonkey,I don't understand why the safety
"works" with the slide off and doesn't
with the slide on.

The disconnector is up in the notch then. Do as said and watch to see the spring tension [^]0 -
Sounds good
Thanks

The first thing that stands out is the safety was replaced or the sear was replaced. Either one will cause this problem. Of course if the safety was installed new and it's fitting area was over cut that would do it too. End of story! 0 -
Thanks for all the advice but I took the handgun
to a retired armorer and he repaired it while
I was looking for my next purchase.0 -
Forgemonkey, he said he swaged or peened something
on the safety and refitted it.
It works fine,we'll see how long.0
