savage model 30-c shotgun
A friend brought me his shotgun from his youth - not working "right", and he had lost the cartridge stop screw. He said he had it apart. I'm not familiar with this model, but had no problem getting it disassembled far enough to clean up and put back together, after acquiring the screw assembly. The bolt/slide release was not attached either when he brought it to me.
I can get it together, but the bolt release isn't working right. I need specifics on spring placement, whether it should be cocked or in fired position when assembling.
there is a small roll pin in the side of the hammer assembly and the tip of it looks worn. Doe the Gun Digest assembly book go into details on things like this?
Thanks!

"Ain't the internet something wonderful? Contact Savage and ask them. "...............and they will probably tell you to 'pound sand', this shotgun hasn't been made for 40 years. the roll pin on the hammer has to catch the slide lock spring and pull it and the slide lock 'down' (spring is the fish hook shaped part of the slide stop. you can function the trigger group out of the shotgun to see how this works, just hold the slide stop tight to the trigger group when doing this.
" The roll pin does seem to be the culprit. The guy doesn't remember having a problem with getting the slide to move after shooting live shells."...........Timing these can be 'fun', it is easyer sometimes to just replace the slide lock assy. (gunpartscorp.com)0 -

Thanks Mike! I can just imagine the fun I'd have even finding someone at Savage who would talk to me about this. I have been staring at it and watching it for clues with the trigger group out for some time taking it through the firing cycle. The roll pin does seem to be the culprit. The guy doesn't remember having a problem with getting the slide to move after shooting live shells.0 -
I did get it working, and the release hold down spring that gets it out of the way when fired needed a little more tension. Assembled for test firing, only to find out his one piece firing pin was two piece (broken at the tip). I can get one, or make one from drill rod. Not sure which way I'll go on that. Thanks for your help, Mike! 0
