1894 Winchester 32 Win Spcl
Hello all, I am new to this forum but not new guns. I stumbled across this site while researching some info on my 1894 Rifle. This gun was handed down to me by my Uncle about 24 years ago and has been in the family since new. After doing a little research, it looks like the gun was manufactured in 1906-1908. I am planning on requesting a letter from the Cody Museum if the info is available on it. I know a lot of these rifles were cut down over the years. Someone has replaced the front sight and added a peep sight over the years.
Model 1894
Serial# 359XXX
32 Winchester Special
Can any 1894 experts chime in with their opinion as to if this gun came from Winchester this way or was the barrel cut down?
Were there any short rifles made with the 9 3/8" forearm?
20" Barrel
9 3/8" Forearm Stock
Not real sure how to post pics in a thread, hopefully this link will work:
Thanks in advance for any help.

That's a nice rifle. I would spent the money for the letter if it were mine. Screw slots are in mostly good shape. 0 -
Thanks Charlie, I have really enjoyed the rifle since it has been passed down to me. I would like to find a correct front sight for the gun. 0 -
Marc,
Your Model 1894 was manufactured in the year 1907. Unfortunately, the records at Cody end at seria number 353999.
The barrel on your rifle is not factory original. Winchester did not crown and blue the muzzles for any of the rifle barrels for the Model 1894.0 -
Rear sight is also not correct for this vintage rifle. Sling studs are probably aftermarket, and the forearm cap look reblued. 0 -
It has a great tang sight and real nice looking wood. I would love to have a firearm that had been in my family for over 100 years. Even though it is not original, it was made special by someone in your family, just the way they wanted it. 0 -
Thank you all for the feedback. Can anyone post a pick of the correct front and rear sight that would have come on this rifle?
Capgun: I am glad the gun has been kept in the family and enjoyed since new. One of my kids will be the next owner of it.0
