Remington 700/721 Question this time.
Two questions, really.
1) Are the 721, and 722 just long/short versions of each other?
2) Is the footprint of the 721, and 700 LA the same? In other words, Can I mount a 721 that is now a 30-06 in a LA 700 ADL/BDL stock? I realize there may be barrel channel/barrel contour issues, but mainly wondering about mounting the action itself at this point. TIA for any input.

Yes..
Yes, the actions will not be a problem in the same stock...0 -
Yes and yes. As to #2, most of the 721's had a lump on the barrel for the rear sight dovetail, and the bolt handle is straight down rather than the rear-ward angle on the 700. And, of course, the bottom metal is different. While I haven't done it, I believe a little tweaking here and there should do it.
In the last year or so of 721/722 production, the barrels were similar to the early 700's. Same length (shortened from 24-26" to 22-24") and same sights. Early 700 receiver bridge had the same "notch" that the 721/722 had. I believe they did a kind of "running change" from one to the other.0
