Savage .410/.22 Assembly HELP!
I have an old Savage .410 .22 under and over, model 24S-E, my fathers gun, that was gummed up with WD40. I took it apart, cleaned it all up and for the life of me, can not get this sucker back together. Pretty simple design, not many pieces but a monkey to get to - the receiver is one piece with little access. Any help, pictures, videos, advice would be welcomed. breech lock is on the side, single hammer with a barrel selector on top. Model 24s-e
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

added: thanks for reporting back. I drilled a hole in the butt stock of my H&R Topper under the butt plate to store the slave pins.0 -
when reassmebling the main spring....clamp the receiver in a vise and do it inside a plastic garbage bag.......saves lot of parts chasing 0 -

The garbage-bag idea made me smile, but it's absolutely correct. Getting the mainspring, in particular, back into the Model 24 seems to be among the tougher jobs in gun reassembly. J. B. Wood's book Firearms Assembly/Disassembly, Part V: Shotguns sums it up nicely: "When replacing the hammer spring assembly...there is no really easy way to do it." A padded vise is essential with a big screwdriver, as is holding your mouth just right and squinting with one eye. Best of luck to you.0 -

You Tube can be your friend. Try this video; I didn't watch the whole thing however.

Thanks for the input. Ended up taking it to a gunsmith after an hour of monkeying around with it. He had to assemble the trigger group outside the gun using slave pins, put the whole thing back in receiver and pushed out the slave pins with the permanent pins. Hope this helps the next guy with a sammich bag full of parts. 0
