Winchester model 42 question

If I hold the trigger down while sliding the action closed, with the safety off, the gun will fire as soon as the action closes completely.

Any ideas how to correct this?

  I just bought one and it has an English straight stock with checkering. Does anyone if Winchester ever made one with a straight stock? Thanks! Fred

  Shotgun was made in 1953 per SN,

  Yes, they did. I have a Skeet Model with a straight grip and beaver tail fore end.
