NFA ?
I saw a H&R handy (410 Ga) on the internet recently and the notation it was a NFA. Why ? and how could you legally own one ? Permit or FFL Class ?

Sporting shotguns must have a barrel at least 18 inches in length and the overall length of the firearm must be 26 inches. Typical Handy Gun barrel lengths are 8 inches or 12-1/4 which are well below the legal limit and since they have no butt stocks they are by definition Any Other Weapons in the National Firearms Act. A few versions had detachable wire stocks and they are considered to be Short Barreled Shotguns. The difference is that any Any Other Weapon costs five bucks to transfer while a SBS costs $200.
There is a stickie at the top of the page that covers the NFA in detail.

What he said up there ^^^. Unlike the Judge revolver (not NFA) with a rifled barrel, the H&R is a smoothbore. 0 -
There are several states in this country, like around 40 or so, that do allow individuals to have, possess, and use NFA weapons. Federal law has always provided for it. They also may allow the use of NFA devices, such as sound suppressors(silencer). It is quite a common myth among over 50% of the population in the USA, that these weapons are not allowed.
If I am not mistaken if an individual, applies in advance, and gets permission, from the BATFE, they can make a SBR, SBS, or ANY other weapon, with the exception of a machinegun.
If you really want to see something impressive, go spend the weekend at the machinegun shoot in Kentucky, next month when they have it. There will be about 40-50 thousand people(civilians) attend, and one of the biggest, if not the biggest gun show, you will ever see.

Thanks to the above posters. As it was produced by H&R I understand that if I purchase it I must apply for the $5 permit as an AOW. It shouldn't be a problem as I waited almost 9 months for my silencer/suppressor/muffler permit. 0 -
forgot to add/ask what would one be worth ? 0 -
Last one I saw was $450, but condition will be driving factor. 0
