Compartment in stock of British 303
What goes in the compartment in the stock of this rifle? I thought it was a cleaning kit, but I have looked for one on this site and cannot locate.

Given the construction of the SMLE I would think it could be an access point for the buttstock retaining bolt. 0 -

They also list handbooks for a #4 and #1

Oiler and Pull Through.

As originally issued there would be a brass oiler that went into the trap first and then a rope pull-through with a brass weight. There is a proper method of looping the pull-through that allows it to fit properly and also leaves the brass weight right under the door of the butt trap.

Hangfire, an interesting bit of rifle lore that I did not know. Thank you very much. 0 -
A leather washer pressed against the stock bolt kept the oiler from rattling. 0
