    Something like the cutts chokes?

The Cutts are screw-in, too. Off hand, I can't think of choke tubes that drop in. I think we need a little more info.

It has a screw on retainer that looks like a polychoke that holds the non-threaded choke in . Thanks

It would help a lot to see some pic's of your set up. I have never seen such a choke arrangement as you describe.

If you have one it could serve as a pattern. Someone could lathe and or mill out some others. Think trade school project. Otherwise perhaps take it off and have regular screw in choke tubes installed.

added Interesting, maybe that design holds up better to steel shot.

Drop in chokes are popular in card shooting competitions.

This guy can make them for you.

Wow! Learned something. Would like to see a more detailed break-down as to how it goes together.

    EDIT: Thanks, Loop!

...apparently, the Beretta 302 came with them:

German engineering, turn a two piece project into a three piece project.

What's the advantage? No internal threads to bugger up, but the screw ring could come loose on these also. I guess you could use vice grips on the OD if rusted, which would be easier then internal removal.

    Quite interesting, but why?

Used mostly on heavy target barrels. Less steel is reamed from barrel
ID and then the locking collar surrounds the OD of the barrel, making it even stiffer.
Constant changes of tubes are needed to fine tune a competition shotgun,to shotshell loads, drop in's are easy to do that with.
Also wad shredder and wad cutting chokes are easily indexed to the bore of the gun.
Some outlaw, unlimited class guns even have "non-round" choke tubes, used to string the shot column into non circular pattens.
Card shoots are pure science of "who can cheat the best"[;)][:D]
