I have no complaints with stainless steel center fire and muzzleloader guns, especially stainless steel barrels. Stainless steel guns will freckle rust. The stainless muzzleloaders barrels are easier to keep from rusting internally as compared to a blued steel barrel. You can prove this to yourself if you make a comparison of the Muzzleloader barrels for rust in about 5 days after you have stored them after what you think was a proper cleaning.0 -
thank you okie, I am wanting a newer ml and found a tc encore worth the money but not familiar with the weathershield. thanks agian for educating me. 0 -
jar,
I have a suggestion for you, and that is to look for an Encore that is stainless , without the Weathershield. There is nothing wrong with the Weathershield, and it is basically a form/type of Cerakote.
The bad part is, that I am not sure if they have made a stainless barrel with the Speed Breech XT, breech plug. That is worth it's weight in gold.
While Thompson Center is a good name brand, since S&W holding company purchased Thompson Center, the customer service, which was once phenominal, has hit the toilet. However, there are not many MADE IN THE U.S.A. guns out there to choose from, that are well known.
Best
EDIT 1
Something, I forgot to mention, about stainless steel. Because it is called stainless, does not mean that it really is...it just has more chromium, and nickel in it.
With that in mind, stainless is not a vice for not taking proper care of your muzzle loader. That means cleaning after shooting with any powder, but especially with BLACK POWDER, or Pyrodex brand black powder substitute, or priming with anything other than a modern centerfire primer...meaning #9, #11, and musket caps.
If you leave this stuff in your gun, fired or unfired, even if you have stainless, it will corrode your barrel, as quickly as over night. Your rifle needs to be cleaned when you are done shooting it.

Damn shame also. When Customer service and public relations sucks I no longer promote ANY of their products nor do I buy. I have few older items that have the S&W name on them that I will be getting rid of because I can no longer even touch them without getting a bad taste in my mouth. T/C is slowly trying to recover from the S&W. I think their may now be a phone prompt lately so as to get transferred to T/C customer service instead of the SUCKs BIG AIR S&W customer service.
