1897 trench gun
Does a trench gun made in 1947 have a collector value as one say made prior to 1944? Does anyone know the last year that a WB cartouche (or however you spell it) was put on one? I have one that according to the serial number was make in 47 but it has a WB cartouche. It looks all orignal. Any ideas? Thanks. Sam.

I have a Winchester 1897 12 ga. that someone cut down to 18.75 inches. If I by the repo heat shield form numrich will this work or is the barrel to short? 0 -
Are you absolutely sure that the barrel has been cut down? Did you measure it from the bolt face to the end of the muzzle? 0 -
Does it have a front sight (bead)? If so It may have been cut and a bead added, or it is "riot" configuration.. Trenchgun barrels are typically 20-1/2" in length and have no front sight.. The front sight will be on the bayonet lug /handguard..

Yes, I'm sure it is cut down with a bead added. The barrel is stamped mod. If I measure from bolt face to end of barrel it is 20 inches. In pictures of trench guns the barrel sticks past the heat shield alittle and I'm worried mine won't, but I want it to atleast be flush with the end. I would just be doing this for fun and to make the old gun look cool so if it isn't perfect that's fine. 0 -
Your Model 1897 has a 20-inch barrel, which was standard for the Riot Gun, but they were marked "CYL" versus "MOD".
What is the exact distance from the bead to the muzzle?0 -
It is 7/16's of an inch from bead to muzzle and it is 4 inches from mag tube to barrel muzzle. 0 -
The center of the bead should be exactly .5" from the muzzle face. 0
