Can ammunition be shipped to a private party in New York, or must it go through a dealer?
Thanks for the input, did not want to stir the pot but was not able to figure it out on my own.

It must go to an FFL dealer. No exceptions.

There is no law that would prohibit me from shipping ammunition to anyone in NY. However, there may be NY laws that specify who can receive a shipment so it would be a good idea for the NY resident to be sure he/she is not in violation.

NY State Law effective 1/15/14 thanks to King Cuomo's "SAFE Act". [:(!]

Not being a resident of NY, or an FFL, I'm not bound by any of it.

Background check system is not up and running yet.

I have applied to be an ammunition seller, but am not a FFL. Once licensed, I'll be able to receive ammo via carrier.

But, for the general public, no more ammo from the internet.[xx(]

You may not be bound by it, but King Cuomo, and his financier Bloomberg, will press a suit against you, and when they are done, you might be living out of a shoe box. Yes, it is a frivolous law suit, but it takes money to fight. In case you have had a brain fart, Bloomberg has about 40 Billion on hand for these, and can bankrupt corporations in court, let alone an individual. However, you would make an amusing test case.

To the OP, it has ammunition has to go thru NY state approved ammunition dealer's.

    EDIT 1

quote:It might surprise you, but not everyone lives in fear of King Cuomo and his sidekick Bloomberg, as you so obviously do. And, you would find it amusing if they were to go after someone out of NY?? That's kinda twisted, don't you think? What else would you find amusing? Microwaving kittens?

Would I ship ammo to a NY resident? Probably not, but if I did it would only be if I had a copy of his DL and a signed statement. From then on, it's his problem.

Many have asked why so many sellers will not do business with anyone in NY, CA, MA, IL, and other States. This is a good example of why they choose that route.

The OP asked about shipping. There are no laws that would prevent me from shipping ammunition to NY. Fortunately, Cuomo/Bloomberg still cannot control Interstate Commerce.

Its rather obvious, that you do not comprehend what frivolous law suits are designed to do. They are designed to financially ruin either a corporation, or a person. It does not matter what state you are in, you still have to answer it, and that takes $$$. Why do you think rather large companies, like 80% of the distributors, plus retail outlets like Midway, Sportsman's Guide, and Cheaper than dirt will not send ammunition to NY, some of them, even to licensed FFL's?

On the other side, about Cuomo, and Bloom(ing idiot)berg controlling Interstate Commerce...you are forgetting their step brother's Chuck Schumer, and Obama, along with when the SAFE Act was passed(if I remember correctly), the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the cousin, Eric Holder...don't thing Interstate, and Intrastate cannot mix...ever? Yea...I thought so.

If you need me to post pictures so you can comprehend this, I can do that for you.

    EDIT 2

quote:WOW! You managed to get Cuomo, Bloomberg, Schumer, Obama, Holder, and Clinton into this, all in one post. Now I really am scared.

It wasn't meant to scare anyone...it was meant to warn them of what can happen in 2016, and you can bet to see Cuomo in a primary.

If you wish to continue this discussion, send me an e-mail, and we can do that, rather than dragging everyone else thru it.

BTW, Midway, Sportsman's Guide, and CTD are FFLs. They are bound by NY's laws.

Yes, send photos to help me understand.

I think we can do without the name calling.

    Best.

New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D'Amico spoke to a N.Y. State Legislative Committee and said the following.

Ok,so I go to Gander Mt.and buy a couple boxes of .22's for my nine year old grandson.Show my NY drivers license and I am ok.No background check until Supt.SP gets his system up and running. When he gets his system up and running,I leave the ammo on the counter and walk out.Mind you, I have never broken the law and have nothing to hide.I am 40 minutes from Pa. state line. Will they refuse to sell to me because I don't have a PA. drivers license. Also,I have a 2nd home in Virginia.Again,no Virginia drivers license.Do I throw the deed to my property on the counter or get my good friend and next door neighbor to buy the ammo for me.Most importantly of all, am I breaking the law when I cross NY state line with ammo purchased in Pa or Virginia?
