  ANOTHER ?, the kink said the rifle was mgf. in 1897.......it is a model 1898 ???
  "It should be marked "U.S. Model 1896""............yup,under good light and maginfication, stamped VERY heavy. sure looked like a '98

  If the S.N. range is in the 90,000's? It should be marked "U.S. Model 1896". The Model 1898, didn't kick in until S.N. #110,000.
