1893 Marlin mag tube
The follower in the mag tube binds up if I put in more than 2 shells. I took a brass rod & pushed the follower up & run a cleaning patch up there & swabbed it around. It helped but need to take the spring & follower out to do a better job.
Took the screw out of the end of the mag tube but the cap did not want to come out. Didn,t want to force it too much without doing some research.
What do I need to do to get the spring & follower out?

It's been a long time since I had one apart, but I think the screw is all that holds it in position. Wrap the plug end with a rag/towel/t-shirt to keep parts from flying and try a feed in some shells or use your brass rod to put pressure on the plug via the follower and spring. I think the end of the tube gets burred into the plug or the plug gets burred into the tube, along with dried oil turning to shellac.
added Excellent. Always nice to make a repair with out causing more damage. A real plus to have a functioning repeater.0 -
Found some info on a Marlin forum. The dovetail stud on the bottom of the front of the barrel holds the mag tube. Need to take the screw out of the end & the 2 screws out of the forearm cap & slide the cp forward. Then carefully pry the tube downward away from the barrel & pull forward away from the receiver & take the forearm off with it.
Didn't have time to work with it last night to see if it works. maybe tonight.0 -
Tried it last night & worked like a charm. Got the tbe & spring cleaned & works fine. 0
