How To Clean Muzzle Brake Ports?
I have a Winchester Model 70 with a BOSS and am having one heck of a time cleaning the ports. I don't want to damage the rifle's finish, so I'm looking for some suggestions from you experts on the best way to get carbon build-up out of the ports. I've tried a "brake blaster" spray, but half a can had little real affect. I suppose pipe cleaners coated with a good gun cleaner might work. What pet tips or techniques can you recommend?
By the way, I've been shooting moly-coated bullets and it appears the moly may be what's building up in the ports. Any special cleaning technique for removing moly build-up?

Get some carb spray, it's made to clean carbon. And if a .17cal bore brush will fit in holes [;)] 0 -
This is the tool they issue for cleaning the gas port on a AK.
Not likely it would fit the holes on your brake.
I would try a standard drill bit just a little smaller than the brake hole to scrape off the carbon build up. You might try wrapping some steel wool around it, for a tighter fit also. I would chuck it in a low RPM, battery powered Dremel.

I do not have a Boss so I'm unsure if this would work for you, but I pull off my breaks and soak them in a ultrasonic cleaner, it cleans the carbon off quickly with no worries about the finish 0 -
I use GunSlick foaming bore cleaner and a nylon brush on mine. 0 -
