That's an in-between twist so it would be expected to handle the in-between bullets well; between 55 - 70 grains would likely do well. 0 -
Start with a good loading book, two is better. Read the full reloading sections. Components are hard to find, you sort of take what you can find in terms of powder, primers and bullets. I would stick to 55 gr although your twist rate will stabilize heavier ones.
Any name brand dies are fine, try and use the same brand shell holder.0 -
Back when the 9 twist and 68 gr bullets were new, Ed Harris checked them out. He found the 52 gr SMK was still more accurate at moderate range than the 69 gr SMK. In HIS rifles. My 9 twist CAR was, too. My 12 twist Remington was more accurate with a 60 gr Berger flatbase.
You just have to do the shooting.0 -
Several of the 1 in 9 twist AR's that we have do very well with 50 grain "tipped" bullets but not much better than with 55 grain SP. That's what we use for varmints so it works out well. 0 -
The powder, that I am finding for hard to beat, is the new CFE 223, by Hodgdon. Gives good accuracy, consistency, and velocity...plus, it works as they have advertised. You will get someplace between 250-300 rounds per pound, so by enough of it, when you find it...same goes for the rest of he components. Your rifle will like the 62-70 grain bullets the best. If you are using it for deer, I highly recommend the Barnes 62 grain TSX. I use mostly RCBS dies, and if you are loading for a semi, get a small base set.

I shot my KelTec SU16-CA the other week with a friend who brought an AR 15(he built)and a Bolt action rifle with his personnal loads. He uses a 52 Grain Match by Hornady and shot the center out at 50 yds with both rifles. His AR is a 24 inch barrel with 1:8 twist, the bolt gun was a 1:14 twist, don't know the barrel length. Don't know the powder load and he uses the CCI bench rest primers. My Kel-Tec is a 1:9 twist, and he gave me 5 of his loads. I was shooting 62gr. XM855 and was getting about a two inch pattern. I shot the first three, one on top of the other with about 1/8" between holes and dead center, then pulled the other two shots about 1/4" right (right handed)but still dead center. I have been told that the twist rate had to do with the weight of the bullet. Now I found out that the type of bullet, weight, length has everything to do with the accuracy, so when reloading for the .223 or 5.56 you have to experiment. I am going to reload my .223 cases with his loads and see if I can attain the same accuracy as his handloads, if so I guess that will be my recepie. Good luck, just wanted to let you know what I have found out. 0
