Remington Mod. 24

I have a chance to buy a Mod. 24 for $400.
It's serial no. 1565 (1922?) in about 80% condition.
Someone Bubba'd a scope onto it, did a real nice job but it's my understanding the factory never made any with a scope.
Need any ideas as to value & rarity.
Buy it or run away??
Advice appreciated.

  The collector value has been reduced dramatically due to the addition of the scope. You're just looking at a nice vintage shooter. Price is roughly 1/3 too much.
